Alumni Web Site Privacy Statement

The Illinois State University Alumni Relations office and the Alumni Association are committed to preserving the privacy of alumni. Portions of the Alumni Relations Web site are accessible only for alumni who have registered, including the Online Directory, and Web Postcards. Other areas of the Alumni Web site are open to the general public, such as the Alumni Events calendar, chapter and club pages, and other general information about the Alumni Association and our services.

Please note these facts regarding the privacy of personal information as it pertains to the Alumni Web site:
1. Proprietary and personal information is password protected and only available to registered users (those alumni who have taken the step of registering with the system); it is not openly available to the public or even to all alumni.

2. Until you have registered and made your choices, other registered users will only be able to see your name, degree year, and city and state of residence. They will also be able to note whether or not Alumni Relations has an e-mail address for you. If so, they can "blind e-mail" you (that is, send you a message without the e-mail addressing being revealed). Once you have registered, you can choose to show more information. You can also choose to keep your information private from other users, if you prefer, yet still access services.

3. The Alumni Online Directory is for official University and Alumni Association use as well as for individual communication of a personal nature between members. Use of the information available in this directory for any other purpose, including, but not limited to, reproducing and storing in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or mechanical, photocopying or using the addresses or other information contained in this directory for any private, commercial or political mailing, is strictly prohibited and is in direct violation of copyright and constitutes misappropriation of corporate property.

4. Illinois State University will not attempt to monitor who corresponds with you or what they might send through the Web site, and therefore, we have no control over any messages you may receive.

5. When you subscribe to the Alumni Web site and provide addresses, those addresses are recorded. They may be used for sending out future mailings via regular mail or e-mail (event announcements and so forth). E-mail addresses of registered users will never knowingly be disclosed to non-University affiliated or University-approved third parties.

6. While we have taken precautionary measures to insure your privacy is protected, neither the State of Illinois, the Board of Trustees of Illinois State University, Illinois State University, the Illinois State University Alumni Association, nor any of their officers, employees, attorneys, representatives, insurers, or assigns shall be liable for any direct or indirect, special, incidental, consequential, or punitive losses or damage arising out of the use or misuse of this site or the content of any message sent by or to site users.
