FAQs for new grads

When will I get my diploma?

Diplomas are generated by the University Registrar' s office. They are mailed two to three months after graduation. When you get that diploma, think about getting a really nice diploma frame for it from the Alumni Merchandise collection!

Please note: If you have a financial hold, your diploma will not be mailed to you until the University Collection Services releases the financial hold. You may contact them at (309) 438-3347.

Diploma covers are handed out at commencement ceremonies. If you did not attend commencement, and would like a diploma cover, you may contact the Evaluation Services office at (309) 438-2282. Additional information about replacement diplomas, and name changes is available on the Registrar' s Web site.

Can I keep my "ilstu" e-mail account? Or can I get a free alumni e-mail account?

You will have a six-month grace period from the time you left campus until your "ilstu" e-mail account is discontinued. As the cut-off date approaches, you will receive e-mails with warnings.

Plans are underway to allow new graduates to keep their "ilstu" accounts. Once we pilot the program with a group of new alumni, we will also offer those accounts to other alumni who want a free e-mail account with an Illinois State University address. Stay tuned, and be sure to stay connected so you' ll get the announcement when this becomes available!

All interested alumni receive a bi-monthly e-newsletter. Please make sure to keep your e-mail address up-to-date so that you may stay informed with news and special events from your alma mater. You may keep your e-mail preferences current by completing the online form.

Now that I've graduated, I don't have student health insurance anymore, and since I'm over 21 and out of school my parents say I can't be on their policies either. I don't have a new job yet. Can the Alumni Association help?

Yes, the Alumni Association sponsors a variety of insurance products that can assist alumni throughout their lifetimes, including medical, life, and long term care products. Of special interest to new graduates is the Grad Med® -bridge medical-program, short-term health insurance to tide you over until you get employer-provided insurance.

One of my friends got that cool university seal key chain from the Alumni office, but I didn't. How can I get one?

The Alumni Association and the Illinois State University Foundation present the key chains as welcome gifts to new graduates. They are distributed at each semester' s Grad Finale. If you missed getting yours, please e-mail us at .

If you received one but it has been lost or broken, replacements are available for $5. Additional information and a complete product list are available at our Insurance Web page.

My new employer wants an official copy of my Illinois State transcript. How do I get one, and how much do they cost?

Detailed information about obtaining transcripts can be found on the Registrar's Web site. They are $6 per transcript and are only available in person, by mail or by fax (a signature is required).
