During his time at Illinois State (Normal) University, he was a campus leader, participated in Blackfriars and several music organizations. Clark is a veteran of WWII where he served as a B-24 pilot and flight instructor. Clark took his first flying course in the Bloomington Airport as part of a class through Illinois State (Normal) University. Clark was a band teacher in the Cerro Gordo community for 31 years.
Mary attended the University in 1942 and 1943 where she lived in Fell Hall and was a Home Economics major. During her time at Illinois State (Normal) University, she was involved in Women’s League. She and Clark met while on campus and they have been married for 62 years. They currently reside in Decatur, IL.
The Waldmiers’ Illinois State University family legacy has continued
through several family members including their late daughter, son-in-law,
great-grandson and several aunts and uncles. Their
granddaughter, Lisa Ridgeway, will be joining them during the Homecoming
festivities.
In 2000, Homecoming royalty was brought back to Illinois State University
after an absence of many years in an effort to help promote pride and
instill Homecoming traditions with both students and alumni. Each year,
students apply for selection to the Student Homecoming Court, with a
king and queen then selected from the court. Likewise, an alumni king
and queen are selected through a nomination process and are invited to
reign with the students over Homecoming activities throughout the weekend.
