Featured Alumnus - Eric Rohmann ’80, M.S. ’85

Award-winning Illustrator

An art major while attending Illinois State, Eric Rohmann credits his professors for providing a foundation of knowledge which greatly impacted his career as an illustrator and author of children’s books. Rohmann shared, “they are passionate about their studio life, and through their teaching showed me that you can live a meaningful life as an artist.”

His most acclaimed work to date, My Friend Rabbit, was awarded a 2003 Randolph Caldecott Medal, was selected as an American Library Association Notable Book, and was a New York Times Best Book for Young Readers.  His picture book, Time Flies, received a Caldecott Honor in 1995.  He is also the author and illustrator of Pumpkinhead and Clara and Asha.  Rohmann was also selected to design the 125th anniversary celebration egg for the PAAS Easter Egg Dye Company in 2005.
